Domains in modern Artificial Intelligence

Since the beginning of 20th century, we humans are experiencing a rapid technological evolution. Scientists such as albert Einstein and inventors such as Nikola Tesla were pioneers in this technological revolution.

Fast forward to 2st century, Now the most important technological revolution is the sudden rise of Artificial Intelligence. Artificial intelligence is simply giving computers the ability to mimic natural human brain functions and make their own decisions by analysing data without any human intervention.

AI has experiencing a rapid advancements over the recent years and It is spreading to almost every industry including medical, military, commercial, entertainment, banking etc. So, it is safe to say that AI is having a major impact in almost anything in this world.

So, we can understand that the AI is becoming a larger and larger day by day. So, it has many subfields and domain areas. In this article, we will take a look at major domains in AI.

Computer Vision

This is one of the most important domains in AI. Computer vision simply means the giving computers ability to understand surroundings and see the physical world by analysing visual input data. Just like we humans see the world taking input data from the eyes and processing them from our brains.

there are several fields we can use computer vision including:

  1. image recognition and classification
  2. facial recognition
  3. image processing
  4. object detection

Use cases such as autonomous vehicles, environmental mapping, security systems, first responders, and space explorations are heavily dependent on CV.

Natural Language Processing

Just like computer vision for seeing things in the real world, we can use natural language processing to make computers understand natural human languages such as English and respond back by talking or performing a task. Instead of typing, we can directly talk to the computer and ask to perform something. Just like JARVIS of Tony Stark ;).

NLP is being used mainly for:

  1. speech recognition
  2. Language Translation

the main use cases of NLP are :

  1. AI Virtual Assistants
  2. chatbots
  3. Translators

Machine Learning

This is the most important domain of AI when it comes to data analysis and making decisions. Machine Learning simply means the ability of computers to mimic human brain functions by training from data and improving specific complex tasks by themselves without human intervention.

There are several ML types including:

  1. supervised learning
  2. un-supervised learning
  3. reinforcement learning

For example, we can build a ML model that take input data from devices in a weather station and automatically predict the weather for incoming days without any human help.

Robotics

Robotics is one of the most important fields in modern world. Robots are artificial creatures that have been built to perform a specific task an help humans.
With rapid rise of AI, now there are a lot autonomous robotic systems are being built that can perform complex physical tasks by them selves without any human interventions.
These automated and autonomous systems are being deployed to many fields such as transportation, logistics, military, agriculture, cleaning etc.

Deep Learning & Neural Networks

Deep learning is a subfield of machine learning. They are actually more advanced modern machine learning algorithms that are being created to handle much more complex tasks that traditional ML algorithms can not handle.

At the core of Deep Learning algorithms, there is a fundamental architecture known as Neural Networks.

The neural networks are basically mimicking the functions of human neurons. There are several layers that are being connected in various ways with each other. These layers include input layers, hidden layer/s, result/output layer.

They are being used for many advanced performances and lay foundation for the many Machine Learning algorithms in various fields.

There are many AI applications modern world. It is clear that we will live in world where AI is having the most impact in daily lifestyle very soon(probably before the end of this century.
